Greenville Urology

Welcome

The physicians and staff of Greenville Urology are pleased you have selected us to provide your urological care. We know you will have many questions concerning both your condition and your care, and we will do our best to help answer your questions. Please do not hesitate to ask any of
us—doctors, nurses, staff, office manager—any questions you have. If the person you ask cannot answer your question, you will be directed to someone who can. We hope the following information will answer some of your questions.

Our Specialty and What We Do

Urology is the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the genitourinary system. Urologists treat problems involving the genital organs in the male as well as problems of the urinary tract in both males and females, adults, and children. The urinary tract includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. The most common conditions urologists treat are urinary infections, urinary incontinence, impotence in males, kidney stones, and the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the urinary tract, including but not limited to the prostate, bladder, and kidney.

All of the doctors in this practice have been trained in the specialty of urology, and all are board certified or board-eligible in urology. After college and medical school, they have completed six years of additional training in urology surgery. Also, we continue to learn and practice new and beneficial treatments as they become available. You are welcome to examine our credentials if you desire.

Although the doctors all received broad medical training, they are urology specialists, and strongly recommend you maintain a medical relationship with a primary/general medical physician or family doctor. If you do not have a primary care physician, we will be glad to give you the names of qualified physicians. We try to keep a working relationship with any and all physicians involved in your care while treating you at Greenville Urology.

Contacting Our Office

We want, even encourage you, to call our office if you have either a problem or a question. Our phones are usually answered by a receptionist. They can schedule appointments, answer questions, or direct your call to the person to whom you wish to speak. If the physician, nurse, or office personnel are unavailable at that time, a message will be taken and we will return your call as soon as possible. Because we try to keep scheduled appointments, we may not be able to return calls until after office hours.

It would be helpful to call the office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as we have immediate access to your chart and can handle problems best during business hours. If you are calling about prescriptions or refills, we can quickly check your chart to confirm and document the prescription. It will help if you have the number of your pharmacy available, so that we may call in your prescription. It is a policy NOT to call in controlled substances (narcotics, tranquilizers, pain medicines, etc.) after office hours.

It goes without saying that emergency calls will be taken at all hours and will be returned in a timely manner. If your call has not been returned within a reasonable amount of time, please try again! Unless your emergency is extreme, please call before going to the emergency room or hospital. If we know that you are going to the hospital, we can call and often make the visit shorter and more convenient.

Office Hours and Appointments

Our office is open between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Office visits are by appointment only, and we try hard to keep all scheduled appointments. If you have to wait, it will be because an emergency has arisen, or scheduled patients may have a problem that requires more time to solve, thus causing delays in the schedule. We regret any inconveniences but, unfortunately, delays or problems cannot always be predicted. If you cannot keep your appointment or will be late, please let us know, and we can reschedule or rearrange the schedule to accommodate your needs.

For the convenience of our patients in the Mauldin-Simpsonville-Fountain Inn areas, we have an office in Simpsonville. Appointments for the Simpsonville office may be made by calling there or to the main office in Greenville.

Fees

We are as concerned as our patients about the increasing costs of health care.

The fees we charge reflect our honest attempts to put a price on a service of the highest quality. Fees denote not only our training and experience, but also a commitment on our part to keep abreast of new knowledge, techniques, and treatments. Our fees are in line with other specialists in our field in this part of the state.

Unless you make other arrangements prior to your visit, we expect you to pay at the time of your visit. We accept cash, personal checks, or major credit cards, and our office will gladly assist you in filing proper insurance forms. Please bring your insurance information any time you go to the doctor for a visit, and advise us of your insurance coverage prior to receiving treatment.

Insurance

Although many patients believe the insurance company is responsible for payment of medical fees and that it is the physician's responsibility to see that such benefits are paid, it is actually the patient's responsibility to pay the bill. We have designed our itemized statements to comply with your insurance carrier's needs. We will provide this itemized statement to you so that you may submit it to your insurance carrier. We also accept Medicaid. You must let us make a copy of your card on each visit, so be sure to bring it with you to the office with each visit.

We need you to tell us if your insurance company requires that you get a second opinion or some form of pre-certification before tests or a urological treatment can be performed. If you like, we will be happy to recommend physicians who can provide second opinions.

Members of Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) or Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) are responsible for the deductible and partial payment at the time of their office visit. If you are being referred by an HMO, it is your responsibility to see that we are provided with their authorization for each visit. We will then file insurance claims for you for the balance.

Insurance rules are not as complicated as insurance forms. We will work together with you in any way we can to make this payment process easy. We will also try to answer your questions about your payment responsibilities.

We are participating physicians in the Medicare program, which means that we accept their allowed charge and will file these claims for you. Medicare patients are responsible for the deductible and 20% of the allowed charges.
